Joh 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and
said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may
glorify thee:
Joh 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give
eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true
God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Joh 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which
thou gavest me to do.
The word Glorify comes from the greek word DOXAZO, meaning "to magnify,
extol, praise".
Firstly we see that the time has come for our Lord to be sacrifised on the
cross for our sins. His work on earth is now complete, the final sacrifice
will reveal once and for all that Jesus is the son of God, and will be
glorified through this sacrifice. This causes him to be acknowledged as the
promised Messiah by the Jewish people, and as the universal Savior by the
Gentile world;
Phi 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name
which is above every name:
Phi 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Phi 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to
the glory of God the Father.
That thy son also may glorify thee - The Father is glorified through all
that the Son has done.
Psa 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou
opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Psa 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written
of me,
Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my
heart.
Psa 40:9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I
have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
Psa 40:10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared
thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness
and thy truth from the great congregation.
Psa 40:11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy
lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
Verse 2 we see the Sons inheritance, as promiced, that included both Jew
and Gentile
Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my
Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance,
and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Because of this, eternal life was given to all who acepted Gods gift to us,
and this eternal life is guarenteed. Because of this, we as the Church is
now part of the bride of Christ, and look foreward to the marrage supper of
the Lamb.
Verse 4 reflects back to verse 1, everything that the Son had to do was
completed, even we as sinners connot add anything to our salvation, the
final sacriface was done on the Cross, remeber his final words "It is
finished"
I trust that the above thoughts will answer your questian, are there any
other comments?
