MISSIONARY PRAYER ITEMS
-----------------------
October 11, 2004 No.1524B
8. ZAMBIA: Paul & Eunice Poidevin (Day 4)
"The proof pages for the Lunda Bible have been sent to Zambia, for us
as a team to carefully check the final Bible before printing. This is
a real answer to prayer, and we thank the Lord that after many delays,
the Bible is nearly in print. We value prayer as the Lunda team will
meet, that we will have help from the Lord to catch any mistakes that
might still be there. Eunice and I are returning to Zambia October
17th."
9. AUSTRIA: Bernd & Karin Flock (Day 9)
"A group of the College and Careers drove to Salzburg to attend a
Youth Day full of music and messages including a missions report of
Croatia. They were challenged and returned motivated after meeting
with over 1000 like-minded people."
10. FRANCE: Gerry & Dorothy Seed (Day 11)
"We held a special 'Open Doors' at our hall to try to make contact
with the neighbours. Of the people who came in on Saturday, three came
back to the meeting on Sunday! All of them live a short distance from
the hall. We do trust that they will continue to come along and that
they may be truly saved."
11. IRELAND: Colin & Natalie Burnett (Day 13)
"We have started back with our book tables at the University. Due to
the interest last year we were able to get a good order of
English/Chinese New Testaments. Many other students came to the tables
and took literature and quite a few stopped to ask questions."
12. IRELAND: Penny DeFouw (Day 13)
"Between now and the end of October I will be sorting out my affairs
here in Ireland so that I can be away for approximately 9 months. I
will be having the first of possibly two surgeries to reconstruct and
realign my spine in the USA. Pray for wisdom and skill for the
surgeons and for my testimony and witness during my stay in hospital."
13. SPAIN: Les & Sharon Frey (Day 15)
"Regarding our marriage ministry, we have several week-ends coming up
in three different cities in the fall. Pray that couples will see the
need to communicate and resolve their differences biblically. The
divorce rate has climbed and we need solid families."
14. PARAGUAY: Michael & Sara Meiers (Day 25)
"The Mboiy assembly reactivated their yearly Spring Festival with a
good number present. I have been working with the people at Mboiy this
year, with a bi-weekly Bible study and then encouraging them in areas
of outreach. Pray that we might see a radio program going in the
community of Mboiy."

NEWS FROM MISSIONARIES
----------------------
NICARAGUA - Mark and Brenda Bachert - 6 October
Mark and Brenda Bachert were married in May of this year and have been
commended by Portage Gospel Hall for service in Nicaragua where Mark
has already spent some time. Mark writes: "Brenda and I have been here
in Nicaragua for one week tonight. On Monday I requested residency for
Brenda and myself and on Tuesday we received it!! Because of having
no guaranteed income, the girl told me that it will be really
difficult and that she was going to see if the department boss was
willing to talk to us. He agreed and said, Process it today!! I could
hardly believe it. We are still thanking God ... An Immigration lawyer
I spoke with on Monday morning told me that it could take up to 6
months.
The land is before us, the darkness of iniquity is so prevalent, the
religious confusion is nearly unreal, and we long for testimonies to
be planted to HIS glory and the blessing of HIS people."
ZAMBIA - Gord and Ruth Hanna - 4 October
"This past weekend we had a conference at Chitokoloki to celebrate -
and that should read "giving thanks to God" for 90 years since the
Mission was established here. In 1913 F.S. Arnot accompanied by others
passed along the river here and the following year returned with
George Suckling who remained at this site and commenced the work.
Chitokoloki, although it is just a small place on the banks of the
mighty Zambezi River in a very remote part of Zambia, yet it has had a
real influence in the development and history of the country as many
of the past and current leaders in Zambia received their start here at
the Teacher Training School run by the missionaries. Over the years it
has continued to be in the forefront of the development of the
education system in Zambia and by 1925 there were 72 schools with an
enrollment of approximately 5500 students.
In 1947 Dr. James Worsfold from New Zealand arrived at Chitokoloki and
he was the first resident doctor who had much to do with the
development of the medical work and especially the Leprosy Settlement
that still continues here. Over the decades the Mission has been known
throughout the country as a place where those with leprosy can be
treated and in latter years many have come from great distances for
medical help, especially in cases requiring surgery. This year already
there have been 486 surgical procedures in addition to the thousands
that have come for the various medical problems. In all of this work
as we were reminding those who gathered yesterday we must not lose
sight of the primary reason for which God has called us to this place
ie. to make Him known and to build up the local assemblies that have
been established in the area.
David Croudace and Tim Beer gave encouraging messages and I added a
few words to a good number from both Chitokoloki and surrounding
assemblies. All seemed to enjoy the time even if it was very hot."
DEVELOLOPMENT AND RELIEF
------------------------
GRENADA - Hurricane Ivan - 6 October
The following update has been received from brother Oliver Finlay in
Grenada: "After the destruction by Hurricane Ivan, the Brethren from
all the Assemblies have established the 'Assemblies of Brethren
Development Committee' which will coordinate all relief, welfare and
development needs of the Brethren in Grenada...
A full assessment of the damages to homes and Gospel Halls and needs
of the Brethren is being prepared. Brother Trotman and Brother Tony
Telesford from Trinidad have visited us to do initial assessment,
however, the Grenada Committee must now provide a more structured
assessment for them, and this is being prepared.
The best time for a team to come would be as soon as the Brethren in
Grenada have acquired some building materials, set priorities and made
some plans for repairs. We are hoping that the Town Planning
Department would not restrict us in this effort. There are some
materials available on the island, however, some of the needed
materials may be imported from Trinidad.
Banks are now operating and we are in a position to use funds.
Initially we may focus on health and safety for those who suffered
severe losses, seeing that some people are camping temporarily at the
site of their homes. However, most families have been able to live
within their houses by placing plastic damp proofing or tarpaulins
over a portion of the house and camp therein. Others have temporarily
re-laid the old galvanized sheets salvaged after the storm."
HAITI - Hurricane Jeanne
Contact has been made with brother Les Harris, a commended worker from
Jamaica who serves in Haiti and is apparently giving some assistance
to those affected by the hurricane. We will publish more details when
we receive them.
