Good evening, to all you dear friends -

I arrived home safely today from San Fransisco, even surviving the
first 5-hour flight with a man who weighed about 400 pounds in the
middle seat! Man, what a trip...

Carol and Shannon are nearly home from a long trip today to Duke
University medical Center, where they met with Carol's surgeon, Dr.
George Leight. While there, they also took a chest X-Ray and did
blood work. 

Next Friday, October 22nd, Carol and I will return to Duke for her
big pre-op workup. She'll have an MRI, CT Scan, etc. Her surgery
has been scheduled for two weeks from today - Friday, October 29th.

Now, there's one development that might delay that...Dr. Leight feels
that the lesion is larger than the Radiologist, Dr. Rosen thinks.
Frankly,
I think we should more trust the Radiologist, who's trained to read
those
things! The MRI next Friday will reveal who's right; but, if the surgeon
is, he might decide on a course of chemotherapy to shrink it before he
operates. We will surely keep you informed on this. Honestly, we'd
rest easier just knowing that the malignancy has been removed, so we
hope the Radiologist is correct.

All of our family joins to thank you for your prayers during this trial.
I've received literally hundreds of e-mails, from around the world,
and we gain strength from each one. It all combines to remind us
that we're in one amazing family. We tangibly feel your prayers, and
thank you again.
