1Co 16:15 I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it
is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the
ministry of the saints,)
1Co 16:16 That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that
helpeth with us, and laboureth.
1Co 16:17 I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus:
for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
1Co 16:18 For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore
acknowledge ye them that are such.
Hi Clay
You are right, we need to submit to those that are in authority, the
repitation of Stephanas was that of one "addicted" to Gods word and people.
We need to be careful however to distinguage between a "self appointed
elder" who is there for the glory of leadership, and a Elder truly
recognised for his qualities, and filling that position. (See Timothy 3)
Your brother in Christ

Hi Rod,
While elders were not addressed in this letter, Paul
does tell them "That ye submit yourselves unto such,
and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth."
The such is from the previous verse "and that they
have addicted themselves to the ministry of the
saints." I believe that Paul is telling all of us to
submit to those are truly serving the saints.
