Good evening, dear friends -

We arrived back home to Myrtle Beach yesterday afternoon,
and as the old adage goes, there is indeed no place like home.

Last evening, the surgeon called who performed the second
surgery on Carol. The Pathology report came back in, and the
two surgeons, as well as medical and radiologic oncolgists met
yesterday to discuss her case and plan her treatment.

Carol's primary abdominal cancer was indeed endometrial, and
not ovarian. This was wonderful news. Both of her cancers were
estrogen-caused, and the chemotherapy treatment for both is
the same! She begins chemotherapy soon back at Duke University
Medical Center...six courses of chemo, three weeks apart. It will
be a very aggressive chemo, with all of the residual nasty side-effects.
But, the surgeon said that they are going for a complete cure. One
amazing and wonderful byproduct of now learning the similarities
in both cancers, and the same chemo drugs dealing with both, is
that they have cancelled her mastectomy! They believe that this
chemo will treat the microscopic cells in both areas. She will, down
the road, have to finally have radiation therapy on her abdomen.

So, we will surely continue to value your prayers for Carol and
the rest of us. I have cancelled my meetings through the end of
this year, and will undoubtedly cancel some more as we begin
this 18-week course of treatment. When that's finished, there
will probably be a 36-day treatment of radiation therapy, and I
want to be with her as much as I can throughout it all. Now that
we're home for a few days, I hope to get caught up on personal
thank-you letters...the Lord has blessed us so much, with people
and Assemblies sending us gifts as we go through this trial. Please
know that the encouragement these have brought is beyond words.
We rest in your prayers and goodness, and His promises. All we
ask is - keep on praying!

With love and best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving,

Alan
